About this piece: Fortress of Solitude is best known as a refernce to Superman's hideout, but I use the phrase to describe my office where I work, mostly alone, during the day. Not that this is what my office looks like. This is based on photographs of an isolated pumphouse of some sort near a small concrete dam. The windowless shack seems totally cut off from the world, not a dwelling at all, patched again and again without regard for aesthetics or the workmanship of the building trades. Another building in distress.
