When a Good Car Dies

Sure motors are important
but windows . . . windows
a car without windows is a wide motorcycle
that collects water

Electric windows can't be repaired
with duct tape
if they've jammed in the
down position

That's where I am
the down position

And one of the tires
seeks out its own path
a few degrees out of line
with his bretheren

That's my path too

I lived out of the trunk
of that car
crashing on the floors of
soon-to-be-former friends
until they threw me out

But the motor still
purrs and roars
and the transmission
has only the slightest
hint of that
electric guitar sound

Now for fifty bucks
I'll sell it to the executioner
with the indelible name:
Auto Heaven
